Local markets are also a highlight of this region with its fresh farm to table food as well as colorful handicrafts practiced from generation to generation. Spanish is the local language and very helpful if you know a few words but charades is an effective form of communication too.

Local flights are generally a bit pricey for a strict budget so long bus rides are the most common way to get around from city to city or country to country so that is something to consider when exploring your options.
